Megan Says, Sounds and Signs

As we quickly approach Megan's 18 month birthday I thought I would do a quick recap (mostly for my sake) of the words that she's saying, animal sounds she knows and the signs she's doing.

Words:
Dog = Dah
Cat = Cah
Bird = Bur
Fish = Fif
Hi
Bye
No
Book = Boo
Thank you = Bop Bop
All done = Ahh Duh
Ball = Bah
Up
Uh-oh
Hot Dog = sometimes could be confused with all done
Shoes = Shoosh
Go = Gee
Bread = Br
Button = Boo
Yes = Esss

There is no doubt that Megan has Hi, Bye, No, and Up mastered but many other words need a little interpretation or encouragement to get them out.  She loves paging through books and waving hi and bye to everything she sees - even if it's just the barcode!  No is the obvious response to any question she is asked right now and I'm not sure how I feel about that!  From shoes on down are new things she's learned this month.  She loves walking around the house saying "shoosh" and putting shoes on both John and me.

Sounds:
Lion = Roar
Dog = Woof, Woof
Cow = Ooooo
Sheep = Baaaaa
Snake = Ssssss
Bird = Weet, weet
Duck = the quacking sound Donald Duck makes when he gets excited
Rooster
Monkey
Pig
Horse

I think this is the complete list here.  I'm so proud of Megan that she can just look at animals in books and make their sounds without even being asked (except during the really quiet parts at church).  Lately, she has liked to look at the backside of her Golden Books and make the lion, duck and dog sounds in response to seeing them.  From rooster on down are sounds we get occasionally and are still working on mastering.  Megan has also learned alligator but instead of making any noises we just pinch ourselves, kind of like the alligator biting.  If only they were that gentle!

Signs:
We haven't been pushing new signs too much since we would rather have her talk with her words, but here are the ones she does:
Please = pat chest
Thank you =  hand to mouth and simultaneous with saying it
Cracker = knock knuckles on opposite arm
Milk = open and close fist
More = thumb to opposite palm
Eat = open hand and touch thumb to chin

That about covers it and I'd say we're doing pretty good here... There seems to be a constant baby-talk jabber of Megan trying to make sentences and I think we're starting to decipher some of them... but that's a post for another day.
