Merry Christmas from John & Karen

John and I are trying our hand at a "Christmas blog" this year to reflect on our experiences in 2007. We're not known for our great words of wisdom or great prose but think this will be a great way to look back over the years and see how we've come from a couple to a family.

In the beginning of 2007 John and I were still getting to know each other since we had just met in October but knew we hit it off and wanted to be together. For John's birthday in May we took our first weekend trip with each other to Chicago to see the new musical "Wicked" which is about the life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West from Wizard of OZ. The show was absolutely amazing. We were blown away by every aspect of it, even from sitting in the upper balcony. The highlight of this trip, though, was the beautiful diamond ring that I received from John on his birthday. Yes, he proposed on the Navy Pier Ferris Wheel while looking over Lake Michigan. Other highlights of the trip included eating at Bubba Gump's, the Weber Grill Restaurant, and going to Shedd aquarium.

In July we helped John's brother celebrate his wedding. Michael and Becca were married on 7/7/07. John was a groomsman and I played piano for the ceremony. It was a wonderful day and we were both happy to be a part of their special day. This also included a trip to Vegas for John as part of the bachelor party celebration.

A lot has been changing with our work lives. In May John's employment with Detail at Retail ended and since has gotten a job with Home Depot in Eden Prairie. There he is Department Head over Kitchen & Bath and Appliances. He enjoys working with his dad and grandma there, however he is not crazy over the inconsistent work schedule.

I continue to be employed through Young America Corporation as an account coordinator. In late July I switched from the Lowe's rebate team to AT&T and also started working out of the Chanhassen facility. I am still teaching private music lessons at the Chaska School of Music two nights out of the week. Currently I have 10 students which is a perfect amount. While teaching a combination of piano and band instruments to students grades 1 to 7 it never ceases to bore me. Most of my students performed in a Holiday recital through the studio earlier this month and right after Christmas we will start working on pieces for the April recital.

From the beginning of 2007 through the end of the summer I continued to play piano, lead the choir, and assist in planning the music at the Chaska Moravian Church, however, due to the upcoming wedding I decided to resign. I greatly miss playing and the fellowship but realized it needed to be done in order to keep my sanity. I haven't been playing piano as much as I would like to but hopefully after the wedding I can start playing a little more.
In September John convinced me to try something I've never done before. That was to play handbells. John has been playing for 16 years but this was one musical group I had never been a part of. I became a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church's bell choir in Minnetonka. I am playing middle D & E and John is keeping busy with the lowest octave and any other bells they throw at him. We love it when he rings the low C at the end of the songs. We perform once a month at his home church.

The wedding planning has been taking up a lot of our time and thoughts lately, although most of it has come pretty easy. Both sets of our parents and siblings have been very supportive.

We are also starting to prep John's Waconia townhouse for April when I will be moving in. One of the biggest (and hardest) changes we made was on Thanksgiving when John said goodbye to his boys. The cats, Homer and Sam, will be living with John's parents to prevent any allergic reactions I would get. The good thing is that he gets visitation rights on a regular basis. To help get rid of most of the cat hair and dander we are getting new flooring throughout the place, carpet upstairs and the steps and hardwood on the main level which is very exciting for us! The carpet has already been installed and the hardwood will come after the New Year.

Well, that is 2007 in a nutshell. I hope to keep this page current with updates on our lives so check back to see what's happening.

Merry Christmas from us to you!!
