Megan at 18 Months

Our little Megan is now a week and a half past her 18 month milestone so I apologize for getting this post out so late... but better late than never!

The Wednesday before last, John took Megan to her 18 month well child check.  Megan didn't grow too much since she was in last but is still falling right in line with where she needs to be.

Weight - 26 lbs 12 ounces - 85%
Height - 32 inches - 60%
Head Circumference- 19 inches - 90%

When John filled me in on how the appointment went, he first said that Megan is a tank and then he said that the doctor scolded him for still allowing Megan to use the pacifier.  She had been very clingy to it and was using it a lot more than she really needed to - she even developed a little rash around her mouth probably from the extra saliva that was produced from using the suckey.  Both John and I were more than ready for the suckey to go so that night it did just that.  Since Megan has quite the memory (she would always dig in our pockets or through the diaper bag looking for it), we figured it was important for her to see it out.  Before bed I cut off the entire silicone piece and cut that into pieces while she watched.  I let Megan carry around the hard plastic part for a little bit and then had her wave bye-bye to it while I threw it away.  She cried a little bit the first few nights and even a couple times in the middle of the night, but for over a week now bedtimes have been great.  We read a couple books, say prayers and I tuck  my little girl into her crib and she doesn't move at all!  She just falls asleep!  (and now that I have this in writing I'm sure it will backfire on me).  Anyways, we never looked back and she's even been pretty good at church without it.

Another thing we're trying to do more is getting Megan exposed to more children her age.  We signed Megan up for an ECFE class that meets on Monday nights for 10-24 month olds.  It is a larger age range and Megan is the second oldest in the class of five - but she is by far the most active.  The first part of the hour class is play time.  There are so many toys and projects and Megan just keeps moving around from one thing to the other.  At least she's starting to let other kids go down the slides before her and not barging in front as much!  The second half of the class is songs and stories.  During the circle time Megan is back and forth between circle and the toys.  All the other kids sit nicely the entire time.... After the first three classes I can tell that she's picking up on a few action songs like the one where we all shake pom-poms and shout hooray and then song where we bang little blocks together making hammering noises.

John and I are also going to start going to the Bible study at church right after the service we go to.  During that time Megan will go to the church nursery and get to play with lots of church friends!  But don't worry, her best friend is still cousin Alexa!

Here are some other new things Megan's doing... Daddy taught Megan how to give knuckles and she thinks she's pretty hot stuff!  Megan is not saying "no" as much anymore and has learned to say "yes" or "yeah".  It's a very nice thing to hear!  She still likes to help me cook in the kitchen and as soon as I start on a meal, she is right beside me with her little steppers.  Megan is getting to be a really good runner instead of just walking really fast with arms flailing.  She also likes to spin around in circles and fall down.

Megan is really starting to enjoy her chunky wooden puzzles.  She has a farm animal one and a few others that we do before bedtime every night.  It's funny because I will hand her the pieces and she will get them all matched up pretty well - the first time... When I try to get her to do the puzzle a second time it's like she's never seen the thing before!  We're going to do several different puzzles from now on instead of the same one back to back...

Megan continues to enjoy coloring with crayons and now likes to play with her little magnadoodles.  Stickers are also pretty cool and can occupy her for quite a while at church!

I think that's about all for right now but it won't be long until it's time for the 19 month update!  Hopefully the fall continues to be nice so we have plenty more nice days outside playing!
